Going the Extra Mile

We believe that ministry is best done through consistently showing up for people when they need help. At Compassion Network, all of the programs we are able to offer are because of the CityServe churches and volunteers who run them. We are so blessed to have volunteers who go out of their way to love our clients.

One example of the faithfulness we see in our volunteer is when they go the extra mile to love our clients. We had a previous client move back to Fremont and come to our office after remembering how we had been able to help her in the past. She came in for an appointment because she needed help with her car brakes. During the appointment, she happily accepted prayer and was also directed to a partner organization’s food distribution. Our connection coordinator put the need for brake pad replacement to her church family, and immediately someone responded. As the connection was made, our volunteer found out that the client was moving into n32 housing and was in need of a toaster. Looking around the house for extra things, our volunteer found not only a toaster but other items that filled her trunk. When meeting at the auto shop to pay for the brake repair, the client selected most of the household items and was very grateful. Later, she asked what church the volunteer went to and said she hopes to attend sometime as well as volunteer for Compassion Network someday.
