The Follow Up
Our greatest desire at Compassion Network is that our volunteers are able build meaningful relationships with our clients. One of the ways that we do that is by being the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need. By meeting the needs of others, we are able to demonstrate the love and faithfulness of Christ to others. Meeting physical needs is often the first step we can take to show someone that we care. Once that trust is built, our words mean more because they have already been backed by action.
Recently, two of our volunteers took on a one time request but ended up building a long-term relationship. Caleb and Chelsey volunteered to help our client, Judy, with some yard work that she was unable to do. Rather than just letting this be a once and done volunteer experience, they offered to come regularly to help maintain Miss Judy’s yard.
Here is what our volunteers wrote about the experience:
Caleb and I got to spend our Saturday working with our hands and helping a neighbor beautify her already beautiful yard. Compassion Network connected us with Judy, who generously trusted two novice yard-hands with a leaf-blower, lawn-mower, and hedge-trimmer. It was a beautiful day to be outside, and we got a lot done in a few hours! (There are plenty more projects we could work on though.....let us know if you like yard work, too. We could use somebody experienced in some of the trickier parts!) Judy treated us to freshly baked cookies and sent us home with homemade clam chowder at the end of the day. We're looking forward to going back next weekend to do a bit more!
